Program details

This is a traditional ballet class danced to classical ballet music. It aims to improve balance, stability flexibility, coordination and mental agility in older adults. Traditional ballet exercises and steps are taught at a gentle pace. First part of the class is performed supported by gently placing one hand on the barre. Leg exercises at the barre include those that involve bending of the knees (plié), standing on one leg to extend the other leg (tendu), single leg squats( fondu), calf raises (rises), kicking (grand battement). Upper body movements are also incorporated- such as forward and side bends from the waist. Class then moves onto centre practice where exercises are performed without support.  Some of the exercises performed at the barre are repeated in the centre as different combinations. Travelling steps moving forward and sideways will also be performed in the centre. Class finishes with a cool down.

All classes are taught by qualified ballet teachers who are Associate of Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD).
