Healthy Ageing Online Learning are self-directed online learning modules and exercise circuits that will help your patients make small changes to improve their health and wellbeing. There are also fact sheets with helpful tips and information and an exercise manual and logbook with images and easy-to-follow instructions.
Older adults can learn about healthy eating, getting active and falls prevention from the comfort of their home.
All learning modules and exercise circuits are evidence-based and were developed in consultation with NSW subject matter experts.
Topics include:
Participants will learn about the five food groups and the recommended serving sizes for their age group.
Participants will learn about healthy and unhealthy fats, natural and added sugar, and how to read Nutrition Information Panels.
Participants will learn about the relationship between their bones, calcium and vitamin D and how to identify sources of calcium and vitamin D.
Participants will learn about why we need to have enough fibre in our diet. They will also learn how to know the signs of a healthy bladder and bowel.
Participants will learn how to make healthy food choices and tips for cooking at home.
Participants will learn how to keep food safe and shopping tips to make healthy food choices, even on a budget.
Participants will learn tips to keeping their gums, teeth, and eyes healthy.
Participants will learn common causes of falls and simple tips to reduce their risk of falling, including the importance of staying active. They will also learn how to improve safety in and around their home, and what to do it they experience a fall at home.
Participants will be taken through warm up activities, 12 circuit exercises and cool down stretches, including information on how to exercise safely.
The exercise manual and logbook includes instructions for easier or harder versions of every exercise.
