Program details
Easy Moves for Active Ageing (EMAA) is a quality education and exercise program that aims to provide safe, effective physical activity for seniors, so that participants can maintain and improve their functional abilities.
Classes are tailored to the participants abilities and are focused on balance, strength, and flexibility.
The practical nature of the exercises allows participants to negotiate stairs with confidence, walk along uneven footpaths and remain steady on their feet if and when presented with a challenge to their balance. The gentle stretching allows participants to remain agile and permits greater range of movement when walking or going about their daily activities. The use of light weights promotes muscle growth, to support joints and combat the effects of osteoarthritis.
Many of the exercises can be done in a seated position and can easily be replicated at home.
The class runs for 45 minutes, followed by a 45-minute morning tea, allowing participants to make lasting connections and friendships within their community.
Participants need to register with South West Community Transport to be eligible for the EMAA classes, door to door transport, class and morning tea is included for $17.00.
