Program details

The Watagan Wanderers Bushwalking Club runs day walks in a broad area including Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, the Central Coast, lower Hunter Valley, Port Stephens and Sydney.

Our walks range from:

  • Grade 2 (easy, all on tracks or paved surfaces and up to 10 kms)
  • Grade 3 (up to 15+ kms and with up and down hill sections on bushtracks
  • Grade 4 (similar to Grade 3 but some off-track sections included and longer ascents and descents)
  • Grade 5 (hard, off trac, sometimes exploratory but usually shorter distances).

We also run other outdoor activities less frequently, including cycling, kayaking/paddling, multi day pack walks, bike camps, car camps and abseiling/canyoning.

We have public liability insurance. 

Opening hours:

Walks run every Wednesday and Saturday (except Christmas and Boxing Days)

Day activities are typically from 9am - 3pm (sometimes earlier to start and later to finish, dependent on location).

Cost:

$40 per year from your joining date

Target age:

50 Plus, 55 Plus, 60 Plus, 65 Plus

Participants who would not be suitable for the program:

The activites are not suitable for people with cognitive impairment. Individuals must be able to walk at least 10 kms or more over rough terrain with slopes (particularly Grade 3-4 walks). Grade 5 walks are for fit persons with some off track hiking experience.

Special requirements or conditions:

Participants should wear outdoor clothing and enclosed walking boots and carry rain wear, a small first aid kit and a back pack with food and water. Walking poles are optional but helpful. More details are on our website.
