What is it?
Stepping On is a FREE 7-week gentle exercise program for adults aged 65 years and over and Aboriginal adults aged 45 years and over.
The program will help you learn how to reduce your risk of falling and how to maintain your independence.
Stepping On includes gentle group exercise to improve your balance and educational talks from experts.
Topics covered include home hazards, community safety, managing your medications and more.
No prior knowledge or exercise experience is required!
Who is the program for?
Stepping On is for older adults who:
- Are 65 years and over, or 45 years and over for Aboriginal adults
- Have had a recent fall or are fearful of falling
- Are living independently in the community (i.e. not in a nursing home)
- Are able to walk safely inside their home without a walking aid
What’s included in the program?
The Stepping On program includes:
- Weekly, 2-hour group sessions
- Educational talks from experts
- Gentle group exercise to improve balance
- Weekly handouts and an exercise manual

Opening hours:
Programs are run throughout the year on an as-needed basis.
Once you complete your registration, a Stepping On team member will contact you when there is a program available in your local area. Please note that programs run for 7-weeks and it may take some time for a program to become available near you.

Participants who would not be suitable for the program:
- People with dementia, cognitive impairment or progressive neurological diseases
- People who rely on a walking frame within their home (use of a frame or walking aid outdoors is accepted)
- People living in residential aged care facilities
Special requirements or conditions:
Participants should wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear to exercise in.
